Ever feel like you’ve blinked and missed half the day? We’re sometimes so busy focusing on the next task that we rarely remember to stop and experience the present. Turns out that deliberately pausing can help you focus more fully – and that can result in a sense of accomplishment, and, at the end of the day, the feeling you’ve had a good one.

Here are simple strategies to try:

1. Be present. Focus on what you’re doing in the moment and use all of your available senses to experience and appreciate it. Even if it’s something as simple as a delicious cup of coffee or a pleasant smell from a candle.

2. Do less. Take an honest look at your To Do list. What truly needs to be tackled today and what can easily wait?

3. Prioritize. Do less, but do the important things. What is going to impact the long run, the relationship, the big picture?

4. Go for gratitude. Take time to be thankful, and if someone is involved in your gratitude, let them know. Saying ‘thank you’ can go a long way. And studies show acts of kindness bring happiness not only to the recipient but also the doer.

5. Get rid of clutter. Even just organizing your workspace or clearing out a drawer can give you feelings of accomplishment, clarity and wellbeing.

6. Take a walk. Getting yourself outside – no matter the weather – for even a short walk in fresh air does incredible things for your mood.

7. Focus. Don’t multitask. Take one task, give it your attention, and do it well. You’ll end the day with a clearer mind and less anxiety.

8. Add music. Feel-good music – or anything that relaxes you – can change the whole feeling of the day.

9. Take your time. Plan your time so you don’t end up rushing unnecessarily. Not only will you feel more relaxed, but you’ll also have a change to enjoy what you’re doing – like savoring your lunch or taking an extra moment to chat with a colleague.

10. Add time with loved ones. Physically or virtually, connecting with those close to you is an instant improvement to any day – theirs too!11. Make it special. Stop waiting for a reason and wear those good clothes you’re saving in the closet. Then garnish with a smile!
